The Limp that Led to Mr B’s Legacy:

"If you take on a kabbalah and marry her, I promise you will have healthy, beautiful children..."
— The Shotzer Rebbe

A Man with a Broken Heart… and a Decision That Could Shape Generations

After surviving the unspeakable horrors of World War II, a broken man found himself walking the streets of post-war London with heavy steps and a heavier heart. He had lost everything—his wife, his children, his past. But not his faith.

Yearning to rebuild, he sought to remarry. Yet all he could find was a woman who, while kind and wonderful, was unable to have children.

With hope dimming, he turned to the one man who carried light in his eyes even during the darkest times: The Shotzer Rebbe, Rav Shulem Moskovitz zt”l.

"Not This One," the Rebbe Said

The Rebbe listened quietly and then replied with his gentle, piercing clarity:

"Keep looking. Hashem will send you someone who is both worthy... and capable of building a future with you."

Some months later, the man returned. This time with two options.

  • One: A "smashing" woman, as he put it—sharp, kind, and accomplished. But, sadly, medically unable to have children.

  • The other: A truly remarkable girl in every way, full of faith and depth—but she suffered a severe limp from a childhood illness.

He asked the Rebbe what to do.

A Promise Etched in Eternity

The Rebbe looked at him with warmth and certainty.

“Take on a kabbalah. Choose the one who limps. And I promise you will have healthy, strong, beautiful children. A true home.”

With emunah, the man followed the Rebbe’s advice. They married, and slowly, their home filled with light, laughter—and children.

Today, his children are not only healthy—they are prominent, respected members of the Jewish community in London. Ask around, and some will tell you they’ve heard the story. Others may be the story.

The Rebbe Who Keeps His Word—Even After Death

The Shotzer Rebbe passed away in 1958 and is buried in Enfield, North London. But before his passing, he left a powerful promise:

"Whoever comes to my grave, or sends a kvittel, and takes on a genuine kabbalah to improve, I will do everything in Heaven to help them—be it for children, health, or peace—just as I did in life."
